Kia Sonet Latest Updates

Kia has launched the X Line trim for the Sonet, priced from Rs 13.39 lakh (ex-showroom). It gets a few cosmetic revisions, including a segment-first Matte Graphite colour and other changes like redesigned alloy wheels with silver brake calipers, beefed up front and rear skid plates with metal accents, and ‘X Line’ badges. Powertrain options are borrowed from the standard variant, which includes the 1-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel unit paired to a 7-speed DCT (dual clutch transmission) and 6-speed automatic transmission, respectively.

Kia Sonet Engine

The Sonet shares its power units with the Venue: an 83PS 1.2-litre petrol, a 120PS 1.0-litre turbo petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine available in two states of tune: 100PS/240Nm and 115PS/250Nm. Transmission duties are carried out by a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT (with the 1-litre turbo-petrol). While the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel units are available with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed manual as standard respectively, the diesel mill also gets the option of an optional 6-speed AT. Fuel efficiency figures are rated at 18.4kmpl(1.2-litre petrol MT), 18.2/18.3kmpl(1.0-litre turbo-petrol MT/DCT), and 24.1/19kmpl(1.5-litre diesel MT/AT). The Sonet is 3955mm long, 1790mm wide, and is 1642mm tall. The wheelbase is 2500mm and its boot capacity is good for 392 litres.

Kia Sonet Variants

Kia offers the Sonet in a total of seven variants within the Tech Line and GT Line trims: HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, GTX+, and X Line. It is also available in an Anniversary Edition based on the HTX trim. The Tech Line takes a more elegant approach to its design while the GT Line adds a dose of sportiness with several red inserts and GT Line badging inside and out.

The SUV comes in six monotone (Intense Red, Aurora Black Pearl, Intelligency Blue, Gravity Grey, Steel Silver, and Glacier White Pearl) and two dual tone (Intense Red / Aurora Black Pearl roof and Glacier White Pearl / Aurora Black Pearl roof). It also gets a segment-first Matte Graphite hue, exclusive to the X Line trim.

Kia has packed the compact SUV with a host of features including a 10.25-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car tech,LED sound mood lighting, a 7-speaker Bose sound system, cruise control, and a coloured multi-info display. Other bits include a sunroof, ventilated front seats, automatic headlamps and keyless entry with push-button start. On the safety front, it features six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with a rearview camera, electronic stability control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

What is good and bad in Sonet?

  • Sonet Positives

    Looks curvy and powerful. Lots of variants to choose from and proper automatics too. Like the Seltos the interiors don't disappoint. New update brings four airbags and TPMS as standard. Six airbags are now available on more models too. Some premium features and transmissions have also trickled down to lower variants.

  • Sonet Negatives

    Not enough width for three adults. No cooled glove box or adjustable front arm rest.

  • Expert's Conclusion

    When the Sonet arrived it raised the bar for everyone. With this update it does so again by offering more than what's mandated by regulations and that's commendable.

    Bought kia sonet petrol with 1.2 smart engine on 16th november 2022, Have travelled 10000km, Including trip to yamunotri.Smooth & safe driving even on hill-roads.Satisfied with control features.But its pick up after break of speed despite of proper gear shifting is a bit on down side.Its traction control system on sandy road needs improvement.
